ART – Dan Lewis
Under the 2011 theme of “color,” students in the SHP Art Class were able to mix their own paints from high quality raw pigments as well as practice color layering and schemes in various media in accordance with their personal ideas. We travelled to the University of Nebraska at Kearney, visiting classes and receiving advice from several professors there. At the Museum of Nebraska Art and through private collections, students were exposed to a diverse range of regional as well as internationally known artists. One-on-one and group discussions, meetings and critiques cultured a solid amount of improvement this year, perhaps more than in any other year I’ve taught at SHP. I’m very proud that these artists were eager to take risks to adapt to challenges that were presented and naturally arose in class.
