On February 23, 2021, Kate Hatch organized an art enrichment workshop for area art teachers. This workshop was facilitated by Cambridge Public Schools Art Teacher, Janice Howell, and Southern Valley Schools Art Teacher, Rebecca Jorgensen. This day was designed for the artist/educator teaching kindergarten through twelfth grade. Janice and Rebecca demonstrated encaustic art.
Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used.
In addition to learning these art techniques, the art teachers were also able to collaborate and share other ideas that they were able to take back to their individual schools.
