To meet the increased demand for the Nebraska Dept. of Education’s Elementary Keyboarding Workshop, Bev Newton and Bonnie Sibert have developed a free Virtual Elementary Keyboarding Workshop that can be utilized by business teachers, elementary teachers, media specialist, technology coordinators and school administrators. The Virtual Elementary Keyboarding Workshop is laid out in six steps that should be completed in sequence over a period of time. Workshop participants view two podcasts and examine multiple workshop resources at their own pace and/or participate in team discussion. Although an individual teacher could benefit from the Virtual Elementary Keyboarding Workshop, this workshop is best utilized if a team of teachers from a building or school district actively engage in the review of materials, software and discussions. This is especially true when completing Step 6.
The Nebraska Department of Education will continue to offer full-day hands-on workshops. Upcoming workshops include:
June 5, 2012—Lisa Newton Hansen of Neligh Public Schools will conduct a 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Elementary Keyboarding Workshop at the University of NE-Kearney as a part of the NCE Conference. To register for the June 5 workshop, you may register online at nceconference.com after April 1. The cost of attending the one-day workshop is $80. After April 1, registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum of 30 participants.
August 2, 2012—Lisa Newton Hansen will conduct a 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Elementary Keyboarding Workshop in the Nebraska Department of Education computer lab located on 6th floor of the State Office Building, 301 Centennial Mall South, Lincoln. To register for the August 2 workshop, send an email indicating your intent to attend to Karen.kloch@nebraska.gov and include your name, school, phone number and email address. The cost of attending the one-day workshop is $40, which is collected on the day of the workshop. Register early as the class is limited to 15 participants.
