On January 14, 2015, Kate Hatch coordinated a science workshop at ESU 11. The day was divided into three parts: During the first part of the day, teachers learned ways to maximize learning based on recent findings from neuroscience. This interactive session provided teachers with a tool-kit of activities and strategies that are designed to help students engage in learning, develop growth mindsets, and promote long-term memory.
The second part of the day focused on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities and provided tips to encourage students to be more creative.
The last part of the day was centered around Next Generation Science Standards. During this time, information regarding the Nebraska State Science Standards and the vision of science in Nebraska was shared and discussed. Sara Cooper, Director of Science Education at the Nebraska Department of Education, was the facilitator for the day.
