On September 17, 2013, ESU #11 provided a training designed to help schools handle crisis situations. Dr. John Dudley, a national speaker, published author, and highly respected educational consultant, was the facilitator for the day. Dr. Dudley has helped countless school districts across the nation prepare for and respond to school tragedies. During the course of the day, workshop participants learned ways to assess their school security preparedness, developed a school security plan, learned how to respond to intruder and hostage situations, defined the roles of building level verses district level crisis response teams, increased their understanding of the roles of school and law enforcement personnel during times of school tragedies, and upgraded their school crisis response repertoire. The day also provided an opportunity for crisis teams among the area schools to interact and gain more knowledge in regard to dealing with specific crisis situations.
