Recently the Holdrege Up4Kids Preschoolers toured Holdrege Floral. Mr. John took the students up and down every row of flowers and plants. The students voted on their favorite flower and chose the Snapdragon because it was fun to watch Mr. John make it talk. Each student had a favorite color as well. When the students returned to the Preschool, they began a science experiment trying to determine how water gets through a plant. Using Daisies, from Holdrege Floral, students place the freshly cut stem into colored water. As the week passed, students could see the white pedals turning blue, red, purple and yellow (depending on which vase of colored water was chosen). They also put celery into colored water. After four days, students peeled the celery back to see that the tubes that ran up the stalk of the celery matched the color of the water. To thank Mr. John, students made a paper and crayon bouquet of flowers and had it delivered to Holdrege Floral. On the left side of the close-up picture of the bouquet, is a sample of the flower arrangement each student made for their mom for Mother’s Day.
