University of Nebraska’s Enactus chapter, along with Holdrege Chamber of Commerce and ESU #11 High Ability Department, hosted the New Venture Adventure on the Road at ESU #11 in Holdrege on Friday, November 2. Five area businesses spent the day with students from Southern Valley, Loomis and Holdrege discussing various problems that they faced as a business. The business people that participated were DeEtte Bailey with Gifts and Things, John Koller from ATC Communication, James Arnold with First State Bank in Holdrege, Tim Schmidt from Holdrege Irrigation and Dave Janssen with Janssen Auto. The students then worked together to come up with different ways to solve the problems that the businesses are facing. Each group presented their solutions to a panel of judges at the end of the day, and a winner was selected based on originality, sustainability and various other questions that the judges presented to the group. The student group that helped Janssen Auto was chosen the overall winner. It was a great day of learning and experiencing real world problems. The individual businesses that participated gave a lot of time, information, and support to the students.

Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects around the globe. The experience not only transforms lives, it helps students develop the kind of talent and perspective that are essential to leadership in an ever-more complicated and challenging world. The Holdrege Chamber of Commerce provided lunch for the participants as well as judges for the event.
