At UP4Kids Preschool in Holdrege, Fire Prevention Week got off to a great start Tuesday with a visit from our local fireman. One fireman talked about the dangers of playing with fire like matches or lighters. He also showed the students toys that had been burned in a fire. Some safety concepts taught included:
- Have a meeting place outside (practice going there).
- If a door is hot, don’t open it.
- Don’t go back in for toys–just get out.
- If a fireman arrives in his uniform, don’t be afraid.
A second fireman put on the firefighter gear to show the kids what he would look like if he were rescuing them. A few students were brave and took his hand to demonstrate “getting out.” A highlight of the visit was touring the fire truck and seeing all the tools that the fireman uses. At the end, each student got a fireman hat and waved as the truck drove away with its lights flashing.
Thank you to all our local Firemen for serving your community.
