On March 28, 2013, ESU #11 hosted a workshop for area principals. Jan Hoegh, Associate Vice President of Marzano Research Laboratory, was the speaker for the morning. Jan spoke about the need for a “Highly Effective Teacher” in every classroom, and discussed two prominent models that can be used by principals in order to ensure that all of their teachers are highly effective.
In February 2012, the State Board authorized the development of evaluation models for teachers and principals based on the Nebraska Framework for Teacher and Principal Performance Framework for voluntary use by local districts. Since NDE utilized both the Charlotte Danielson and Robert Marzano’s models to construct this tool, this workshop provided information that gave principals a greater understanding of the theory behind the tool. As a result, they should be able to use the tool more effectively if they so choose.
