On January 26, 2022, ESU 11 hosted a workshop to allow educators to learn more about dyslexia. During the course of the day, participants examined the roles and responsibilities of educators in developing and implementing evidence-based practices and accommodations, and discovered how a more inclusive classroom environment can be created for students having or suspected of having dyslexia. An explanation for how to identify specific skill deficits, provide intervention, and progress monitor skill development was also provided. The Nebraska Dyslexia Guide and many practical resources were also shared. Dr. Abby Burke, NDE Reading Specialist, and Jo Gunderson, Office of Special Education, were the presenters.
