On September 19, 2019 ESU #11 provided a Level II Plus training on how to handle crisis situations and/or grief in the school setting. Nationally known crisis responder Dr. John Dudley was the presenter. During the course of the day, many experiences were shared. These experiences helped provide a framework for school teams to revise their own crisis team protocols. On this particular day, topics for discussion focused on:
- introduction/review of basic things to remember when responding to a crisis
- anniversary responses
- updates on memorial issues
- addressing outside constraints that impact team responses
- planning for delayed grief issues impacting long-term follow-up
- natural disaster protocols
- communicating with parents
- crisis team members
- releasing student from an alternative evacuation site
