The ESU #11 Gifted Department hosted their 6th annual Battle of the Books. There were 41 students present from 11 different districts. The students were able to visit with Lauren Wolk, author of Echo Mountain and Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch, author of Don’t Tell the Nazis. They all made Memory Boxes, an activity similar to the one in The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise. All the books mentioned were one of the 32 books that were presented to the students. They had to read a certain amount to be able to participate in the final battle, based on their grade level. We are very proud of all of the students and amazed at how much they read. The big student winner of the day was Allegra Johnson from Wilcox-Hildreth, who read and completed activities on 22 books. The purpose of this activity is to get the students reading, and we’ve been very successful at that!! A BIG thanks goes out to all of the schools for their support and help with this project.
