On January 12, 2016, ESU 11 hosted a Marzano “Art and Science of Teaching” workshop. Phil Warrick was the facilitator for the day. The foundational purpose for the training is the enhancement of teachers’ pedagogical skills, with the ultimate goal of enhancing student achievement. This workshop provided an overview of the Art and Science of Teaching framework, including the 9 lesson design questions, 3 lesson segments, and 41 elements of instruction. Participants learned how the Art and Science framework is used for teacher self-reflection and teacher evaluation that is focused on growing teachers’ pedagogical skills. During the workshop participants saw examples of how other schools use The Art and Science of Teaching as a common language of instruction, teacher self-reflection and teacher evaluation. Participants experienced using the Marzano evaluation rubrics that are matched to the instructional elements through the use of short videos.
