On October 5, 2015, ESU 11 organized a fall conference for the thirteen schools in the ESU 11 area. This conference was entitled “Teach Like a Pirate” and provided teachers with the opportunity to learn more about the field of education.
The day began with keynote speaker Dave Burgess, a New York Times best-selling author and award-winning teacher from San Diego, California. Dave used humor and creativity to show teachers how to dramatically increase student engagement, design wildly creative lessons, and build courses that are life-changing experiences for students. After this address, teachers were then provided the opportunity to select three breakout sessions to attend.
There were approximately seventy-five sessions from which to choose. Sessions focused on technology integration, special education, coaching, media, art, music, reading, math, science, social studies, and career education. The day concluded with a closing keynote address given again by Dave Burgess. Dave used a combination of magic and humor to help teachers reignite their passion for education. Approximately 600 educators from the ESU 11 area were in attendance.
