August 1st was a busy day for new teachers in the ESU #11 area. In the morning, a PowerSchool training for new teachers was held. ESU #10 Integration Specialist, Ellie Schroeder, was the facilitator. This workshop was specifically designed for new teachers in the ESU #11 area. PowerSchool is a web-based student information system that many districts use to take attendance, add assignments, enter student grades, customize grade scales, work with a class roster, submit lunch counts and enter student log entries. The underlying theme of PowerSchool is to help schools access and maintain student, staff and schedule information.
In the afternoon, ESU 11 Staff Development Director, Kate Hatch, conducted the first day of the Entry Year Assistance training for school teams. During this training, a mentor and a new teacher had the opportunity to participate in discussions involving their district’s policies and procedures, decision making, what makes quality effective teachers, and proactive management. This training provides an opportunity for mentors and teachers to collaborate and discuss classroom issues in a safe, supportive environment.
