The 29th Annual Invention Convention hosted by Educational Service Unit #11 of Holdrege, and organized by Janelle Jack, Gifted Education Coordinator, was scheduled to be held Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege. 128 inventors in Grades 3rd-8th were registered. Participating schools included: Alma, Cambridge, Franklin, Holdrege, and Minden.
The schools made the decision to shut down because of COVID-19 the week of the event, so they made the decision to let students know they could participate by submitting a video of their presentation with their invention. They were also given the choice to keep their invention and use it to compete with next year. Many students made the decision to keep it and just keep making it better over the next year.
Students were first judged in their grade level which was divided into groups called “Inventor’s Circles”. There were 15 different Inventor’s Circles which each had place winners.
The judges then picked an overall winner for each Grade Level (3 rd – 6th).
