UP 4 Kids Preschool in Oxford celebrated the end of the year with a wonderful program!
UP 4 Kids Preschool – Holdrege visited a local farm this week. At the farm, the kids got to see and do a lot of activities. The first thing they did was hold a chick. The farm had a new puppy that was very friendly. Next, were three grown-up miniature goats and a baby. Feeding the goats was very exciting. Milking a goat was a highlight for the people brave enough to try. On the way to see the big animals (cows and horses), we saw big trucks, tractors and pickups. Some of the other activities included playing with trucks, wagons, bouncy horse, and climbing trees.
After getting Monarch butterflies as caterpillars, the students at UP 4 Kids Preschool in Holdrege watched them change into chrysalis and then emerge as butterflies. They started with 10 caterpillars and 9 were successfully released this week. Once the butterflies emerged, the kids had to feed them by soaking cottonballs in sugar water. The kids learned that the milkweed plant is the Monarch Butterflies favorite food and that they migrate. “The monarch butterfly exhibits the most highly evolved migration pattern of any known species of butterfly or moth and perhaps any known insect.”
