ESU #11 sponsored the Jr. High/Middle School Quiz Bowl at the Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege on Wednesday, February 13th. Teams attending were Alma, Arapahoe, Axtell, Bertrand, Cambridge, Elwood, Eustis-Farnam, Franklin, Holdrege, Loomis, Minden, Southern Valley, and Wilcox-Hildreth.

20th Annual Elementary Quiz Bowl Results

ESU #11 sponsored the 20th Annual Elementary Quiz Bowl at the Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege on Wednesday, January 9th. Teams attending were Alma, Arapahoe, Axtell, Bertrand, Cambridge, Elwood, Eustis-Farnam, Franklin, Holdrege, Loomis, Minden, Southern Valley, and Wilcox-Hildreth.

Kevin Honeycutt Visits Alma Public Schools

On October 29, 2012 the ESU #11 Staff Development Department coordinated a technology integration workshop for Alma Public School.  The facilitator for the day was Kevin Honeycutt.  Kevin is a technology integrationist and a staff developer from Central Kansas. He spent 13 years teaching K-12 art, and now travels the country and the world sharing ideas with educators.  Kevin spent the morning teaching Internet safety to students in grades K-12.  During the afternoon, Kevin worked with K-12 teachers and shared a variety of free tools as well as stories about schools and classrooms that have integrated these tools in order to engage all learners.

       

Invention Convention 2012

The 21st Annual Invention Convention hosted by Educational Service Unit #11 of Holdrege, and organized by Tim Burke, Director of Gifted Education was held Monday, April 16, 2012 at Pioneer Village in Minden. 145 inventors in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 participated. Participating schools included: Alma, Cambridge, Franklin, Holdrege, Minden, and Wilcox-Hildreth.

This year’s winners of the Harold Warp Memorial Inventor’s Choice Award were Cydney Hoskins and Konnor Nielsen from Minden. Their invention was the “Squeaky Clean Brush”. They received a certificate as well as a trophy that will be displayed at their school. Each inventor at Invention Convention casts one vote for their favorite invention to determine the winner.

Students were first judged in their grade level which was divided into groups called “Inventor’s Circles”. There were 14 different Inventor’s Circles which each had a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner.
