Art Enrichment Workshop

On February 2, 2012, ESU #11 hosted an art enrichment workshop for area art teachers.  This workshop was facilitated by Chris Dolan from Minden Public School, and was designed for the artist/educator teaching kindergarten through twelfth grade.  This year’s project was papier-mache.  The traditional method of making papier-mâché paste is to use a mixture of water and flour or other starch, mixed to the consistency of heavy cream.  The paper is cut or torn into strips, and soaked in the paste until saturated. The saturated pieces are then placed onto the surface and allowed to dry. Once dried, the resulting material can be cut, sanded and/or painted, and waterproofed by painting with a suitable water repelling paint.  In addition to learning this new art technique, the art teachers were also able to collaborate and share other ideas that they were able to take back to their individual schools.

Google SketchUp Workshop

On January 31, 2012, ESU #11 hosted a Google SketchUp workshop.  This workshop was designed to provide beginning/intermediate users with the basic skills needed to effectively design and model wood projects.  During the course of the day, participants advanced through a sequence of learning modules each starting with discussion and demonstration, and ending with participants performing the newly learned operations on his/her own computer with instructor guidance.  In addition, participants also created a realistic model of something relevant to woodworking, and were able to access some lesson plan materials.  All schools that attended received a graphics drawing tablet to use with this and other programs.  This workshop was made possible by the Carl Perkins grant.  Devin Muirhead, Industrial Technology Instructor at Valentine Community School, was the facilitator for the day.

ESU #11 Staff Members Participate in the 100-Day Challenge

ESU #11 staff members have chosen to participate in the Live Healthy Nebraska 100-Day Wellness Challenge.  This challenge is providing the opportunity for people to get active and become conscious of the lifestyle decisions that are made on a daily basis.   The program incorporates a fun, team-centric approach, to encourage participants to make positive choices when it comes to physical activity, weight loss, and nutrition.  The challenge began January 23rd and will conclude May 1, 2012.

Adobe Acrobat X Pro Workshop

On January 30, 2012, ESU #11 held an Adobe Acrobat X Pro workshop.  Adobe® Acrobat® X Pro software allows one to communicate easier, faster, and better with PDF.   As a result, productivity is increased because one is able to edit and reuse content, streamline reviews, and quickly create fillable PDF forms with rich media included.  In addition, one can share information more securely and gather team feedback more efficiently.  The facilitator for the day was Linda Dickeson, Distance Learning Coordinator for Lincoln Public Schools.  Linda has been an Adobe Education Leader (AEL) since 2004, and is the author of the CLICKstep Training books for Education.
