Message from Tim Burke, Director of Gifted Education:

I am announcing my plans for Retirement effective June 28, 2013, after 36 years in education in South Central Nebraska. I was born and raised in Missouri where I received my undergraduate degrees. In August of 1977, I began my career in education by being hired as a classroom teacher with Minden Public Schools. I spent 9 1/2 years teaching Earth Science and coordinating the gifted program. I received a Masters Degree in Gifted Education from Kearney State College in 1986. In January 1987, I was hired as Director of Gifted Education at ESU 11. For the past 26 1/2 years, I have devoted my life to providing opportunities for high ability learners in the ESU #11 area.

I am so thankful for the privilege to have worked with such a wonderful ESU #11 family who supported me as I became completely involved in high ability learner education. Through my work at ESU 11, I was so fortunate for the opportunity to have worked with so many great school administrators and teachers from the schools in the ESU 11 area, as well as having the honor of working with professionals in the field of Gifted Education while serving on numerous state and national committees and boards.

My most rewarding experiences and memories that I will leave education with is the time I have spent working directly with students. I have worked with numerous students who participated in the various gifted programs sponsored by ESU 11 including classroom activities, Future Problem Solving, Invention Convention, Academic Quiz Bowls, Academic Summer Camps, and the prestigious Summer Honors Program. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with students of all ages.

I am most grateful for a very supportive wife and family whom I owe my success to. During retirement, my wife and I plan to enjoy our house we purchased in Gretna, NE to be closer to children, grandchildren, and family in Eastern Nebraska, Minnesota and Missouri.

I would like to thank the ESU 11 Board, Dr. Paul Tedesco, past administrators Ron Karr and the late Rod Smith, my secretary Danita Geisinger, the ESU11 Leadership Team, ESU 11 Staff and all the very special people over the years at ESU #11 and in the ESU #11 area who supported my career for the past 26 ½ years.

This has been the most difficult decision I have ever made. I will miss everyone.

Most Sincerely,

Tim Burke
