Gender Differentiation Workshop

On June 26, 2012, ESU #11 Staff Development Director Kate Hatch coordinated a workshop that focused on the gender differentiated classroom in grades kindergarten through twelve.  Master teacher and nationally known presenter Ron Coniglio was the facilitator for the day.  Because boys and girls learn differently, this workshop focused on helping teachers become aware of learning differences that gender creates.

During the course of this workshop, Ron examined the current brain research on the learning differences between boys and girls.  He shared ideas and techniques that allow teachers to maximize the specific learning needs of male and female students.  He also shared ideas on kinesthetic learning, differentiating writing and language instruction to meet the needs of both genders, how to create a classroom layout that is effective in both form and function, techniques to increase achievement as well as ideas on how to better manage the behavior elements of both genders in class.
