On August 11 and 12, 2011, Kate Hatch, ESU #11 Staff Development Director coordinated a DIBELS Next workshop. The workshop was facilitated by ESU #10 Staff Developer Susan Evans. The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills from kindergarten through sixth grade. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills. Using a universal screener such as DIBELS Next is an important component of the Response to Intervention process that many of the ESU #11 schools are incorporating.
