Art Enrichment Workshop

On February 17, 2011, ESU #11 hosted an Art Enrichment Workshop for area art teachers. This workshop was facilitated by Christy Kosmicki from Holdrege High School, and was designed for the artist/educator teaching grades three through twelve. It was designed to broaden the teacher’s understanding of cubism, help adapt these concepts into the existing district curriculum, and develop individual examples of the following cubistic innovations: scaffolding, overlapping planes, simultaneous views, simplification of form and figure deconstruction & reconstruction.

The morning was spent exploring the complexities of Cubism and generating a variety of preliminary ideas/drawings using conte crayon, pen & ink, pen and brush, collage and the Xerox machine. The afternoon was spent developing unique, individual, preliminary ideas into a finished drawing on cold press illustration board.

I attended this workshop and I just want to say , Christy did an awesome job. I have put off
doing cubism with my older students because I was never sure how to present it accurately.
Now I’m ready. Thanks Christy! And thanks to Jerry Gronewald for the wonderful DVD of the workshop that he made for all the teachers. Thanks also to all the people at ESU 11 that helped to make this workshop possible, thanks for the supplies and also (as always) the delicious brunch and lunch. You all do so much for the art teachers, and all teachers in the ESU 11 area. We are so fortunate to have such a great educational service unit, and I appreciate all you have done through the years.
